"Voices of Resistance"
Color-Copier Poster March 2003
For years, Jesus Barraza and I have developed the political graphics for TOJIL (formerly known as OLIN), a youth organization of the Xicana Moratorium Coalition. In March 2003, TOJIL produced the 3rd Annual Ethnic Studies Conference at UC Berkeley and asked us to develop outreach materials for the conference. Appearing in the poster is an Adelita, a female fighter in the Mexican Revolution, and
Lil' Bobby Hutton, a youth member of the Black Panther Party. Bobby Hutton was only 16 years old when he joined the Black Panther Party (BPP) in December, 1966. In 1968 during an ambush led by Oakland Police, Bobby Hutton was shot twelve times and killed instantly. He is pictured here in front of the Oakland Police Department holding a rifle. Pictured along the lower portion of the poster is Kathleen Cleaver (left), the first woman to be appointed to the to the Black Panthers Central Committee, and Yuri Kochiyama (right), a Japanese-American civil rights worker. The center photo is a Palestinian youth holding up a Victory sign.
