Decolonial Slut Love TP 1/1

In this edition, my goal was to develop an experimental body of work around a particular set of creative rules during the printmaking process. These rules were: use the same ink colors, use the same black stencil, use mineral spirits, use the brayers like ink brushes, and position the elements in a distinct arrangement on the paper each time. Sometimes I would trap the color inside the black line, other times I would push the kissing figures to the edge of the paper, and other times I would use the ghost of the impression. The series of prints allowed me to work out my ideas around composition, ink transparency and the order of the color drops.

I created these works when I was going through a painful break up with a lover. The separation was affecting me in a negative way, yet, I was grateful for a moment of distance in order to reset and imagine a joyful friendship. This piece was developed at a time when I was radically reimagining the concept of love and embracing my own identity as a slut.
