This piece is part of a collection of word collages that honor our interconnected relationship to all that is alive. Our health and our wellbeing is tied to the health and well being of all humans, the land, flora and fauna. These works reflect my own personal journey to realign with nature and to work towards a world where human beings can thrive and we can live in harmony with nature. We are in a time of climate chaos. The current extractive economy is not sustainable, it requires the exploitation of life - exploitation of humans, animals and earthly bodies like oceans and forests - for the benefit of a privileged few. We must move away from the world view of extraction towards one of partnership, as Indigenous people have been teaching us for centuries.

Colonization and racism caused the climate crisis. Stolen land and stolen labor were the basis of an economic system based on exploitation that lives on today. Over 500 years ago, Europeans invaded Turtle Island and committed mass genocide, destroying the ecosystems and pillaging the land, wiping out 90% of Indigenous people. European colonizers stole over 12.5 million African people and built the horrific Transatlantic Slave Trade in order to feed their insatiable greed.

We cannot achieve climate justice nor climate solutions without Indigenous sovereignty, reparations to descendants of enslaved Africans, and racial justice. I am deeply committed to show up to this work of protecting LIFE on Planet Earth as someone who grew up in a concrete jungle, a polluted community that continues to witness the harm of the fossil fuel industry.

These word collages are a limited edition series incorporating a body of organic shapes that were developed solely for this climate collection.
