Quarantine Spring 2

This series was created in Spring 2020, during the COVID19 Shelter at Home order mandated by my county in the Bay Area. I had been at home with very limited human interaction, and had stopped all my travel. While the pandemic had caused a hardship on my finances, it was also a tremendous gift that I didn’t know I needed. I shifted to be in major creator mode and focused on making art that reflected our new reality. I focused on my activism during the day, and in the evenings and weekends I digested all that was happening around me through my hands and imagination.

This series reflects the ways in which I was evolving my shapes and visual language during the pandemic. I began to use a new vocabulary of shapes, as well as recycled and adapted old shapes so that I didn’t waste any material. In this series, I played a game - I would attempt to use a limited palette of four to five colors to create fantastical landscapes. My original goal with these pieces was to print words on top of them with bold messages. Yet in creating these works, I started to fall in love with the softness of the arrangements themselves. Therefore, I let them become their own series reflecting the moment of the Quarantine Spring.
