Chiquita Pero Picosa
This work is part of a series of wood panels in which I was experimenting with various textures to create bold portraits. Each portrait is composed of patterns and icons that are printed on large sheets of colored paper. Through linoleum block, I have been experimenting with how my shapes can be combined into patterns, and I achieve that via relief printing and by gluing shapes on top of other colors. I really love the way the characters reflect various elements of my culture, including the chile, the fists and the maiz (corn) textures. My goal with these pieces was to see how far I could push the different textures and patterns in my work to create characters that have depth.
