In the Fall of 2018, I was going through a major break up and experiencing a big range of emotions. I was in a complicated and complex situation that I needed to exit, but had to do so with care. This suite of 3 prints is about that time period. I had begun to experiment with combining sumi ink with my collages. A few months prior I had completed an artist residency at the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation in Captiva, Florida, where I had created dozens of sumi ink drawings that became the basis for new works. I had returned to my home in the Bay Area with a new curiosity for the brush strokes of the sumi. I created a number of woodblock profile faces with the sumi ink and they became the basis for a new body of work in which I used a repeating image. In this series of collage prints, I wanted to play with the repetition of a face combined with collage elements.
