I created this artwork in late 2020 as we were in the thick of winter and I was really feeling the impacts of the pandemic on my own mental health. It was holiday season and my loneliness and past trauma were surfacing. I took the opportunity to go inward and do some of my own healing work, and this piece is a reflection of that. In this piece, the figure is looking backwards to explore the wounds of the past. The character is understanding the patterns that have traveled from generation to generation, and exploring how she might break some of these patterns, especially the toxic ones. In this print, I began experimenting with creating patterns and backgrounds from my leftover shapes. I really love the look of the patterns and this technique would end up being something that I would continue to repeat throughout the next few months.
