In the Fall of 2018, I began to experiment with combining sumi ink with my monotype collages. A few months prior I had completed a 5-week artist residency at the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation in Captiva, Florida, where I had created dozens of sumi ink drawings that became the basis for new works. I had returned to my home in the Bay Area with a new curiosity for the ink. In this series of collage prints, I wanted to combine the power of the black ink strokes with the textures of the monotype shapes.
