I Don't Know How To Love, But I Start with Myself

Monotype
30 x 22 inches

This monotype is part of a series of self portraits about my own process of self exploration around my romantic desires, my sexuality and my relationship patterns. For much of my 20’s and 30’s, I was in relationships that were more extractive than they were regenerative. I consistently brought more to the table, especially when it came to romance and love. In my late 30’s I began to unpack these toxic cycles and transform my own desires. Thankfully, my artistic practice was a place for me to work out these questions and engage in a dialogue with my own imagination. In this series, I depict the many aspect of my person and my journey to embrace and love my whole self. The figure is a representation of the way in which I see myself - powerful and electric. The figure is grounded yet floating, composed of different textures and colors. There is a secondary figure within the main character, which represents my inner voice and conscience.
