It's My Body. It's My Pussy

This poster is part of a series of feminist reactions in 2012, as politicians and conservatives waged an all-out war on women's bodies—threatening our access to healthcare, our right to birth control, and our right to free, accessible, and safe abortion. 2012 was a special year for me because it’s when I came out about my abortions. The harmful policies of 2011 inspired this poster series, as thirty-six states enacted a then-record ninety-two new laws that restricted safe, legal abortions and targeted abortion providers. The attacks on abortion continue today with the overturning of Roe V. Wade.

I came out about my own abortion to break the silence and to shed the shame. By telling my story as a Latine woman, I put a face to the debate and complicated the narrative. I was unapologetic in how I told my story and celebrated my sexuality. I was fed up with misogynist politicians that were working to further limit our bodily autonomy. The right to control your own reproduction is the most fundamental right we have as human beings.
