Oakland Hike
In May 2018, I participated in a 5-week artist residency at the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation in Captiva, Florida. The art residency was highly transformational and productive, and set me on a new course with my artistic practice. During a final evening as I was packing my art supplies to return home, I began to arrange my shape elements in neat little stacks organized by color. These stacks created unexpected organic shapes of their own, and I fell in love with the simplicity of these monochromatic arrangements. It was a new direction for me because most of the time, I’m creating a diverse and expansive color palette with many shapes.
