Power 2024 II
In 2024, I embarked on a journey to revisit my iconic Power Fists and develop a new series of prints paying homage to a symbol that has served as a central motif in my artwork for the past 25 years. Throughout my artistic career, I've been fascinated by the potency of symbols, particularly those deeply entrenched in our cultural consciousness. I love to play with symbols from our social movements as well as symbols from nature.
In this latest series, the fist is encircled by majestic trees and bathed in the heat of the sun. Symbolizing a new dawn and fresh beginnings, the sun radiates hope and resilience. Meanwhile, the towering trees embody an ecological force that amplifies human strength, underscoring the interconnectedness between humanity and nature.
I began using the fist as a central figure in my prints in 2018 during the resistance against Donald Trump. Since then, it has become a recurring icon in my artistic repertoire, reminding us of our collective demand for justice and freedom. In this collection, I've introduced a new series of linoleum block patterns within the fist, pointing at my evolving use of intricate patterns within larger shapes. This series represents a fusion of past and present, symbolizing my ongoing exploration of symbology, activism, and biomimicry.
