This piece celebrates the place where human life begins. It honors not only my own body but all bodies who have wombs, where life is created.

I often share my abortion story, along with the journey of generational womb healing that I am embarking on. As I speak of the wounds—both my own and those of my ancestors—I also celebrate the fact that my womb has the power to give life. Although I have chosen not to have children, I honor and respect my connection to all that is alive, and I feel that connection deeply through my womb.

As we continue to fight for bodily autonomy, let us also fight for the right of all people to access the health care they deserve—especially for those bringing new life into this world. They should receive excellent care without fear or having to endure a racist medical system.

In this piece, the character leans back, opening her legs, from which a portal of flowers emerges. These flowers symbolize life, representing the interconnected web of existence. The character is surrounded by a vast blue sky, symbolizing the relationship between humans and the universe. I loved incorporating my handmade patterns into the body of this character, so that her skin can be read like a map. The different patterns represent a connection to the ancestors and to all living things.
