Sustenance
This piece depicts a mother and child connecting with nature by spending time an urban garden, growing plants and food. In the piece, a girl is planting seeds as her mother tends to the flowers and smells the wonderful aroma. Mother and daughter are spending time together in their backyard, planting seeds, harvesting food, and enjoying the tranquility of the plants. Their small dog is basking in the sun. The yellow and green colors in the background allude to the biodiversity of the garden.
This piece was commissioned by the Alameda County Arts Commission and is one of three works about how families cope with the incarceration of young family members. The other prints are titled, Transition and Kinship.
