Three Women EV 5/6

2013
Hand Printed Multiples & Editions
Linoleum Block & Watercolor on Japanese Paper
21.25 x 36 inches

I named this piece in honor of Nina Simone's song, "Four Women." One of my favorite approaches to composition is to depict three individuals, either in profile or facing the viewer. The three women in this piece embody dignity, fearlessness, and sexiness. This piece evolved from a linoleum block series that was originally designed to be a 3-color edition. I had a few impressions of the linoleum block print on Mulberry paper and I experimented with layers of watercolor.
