Henri Matisse is one of the artists who has deeply shaped my visual approach and artistic process. Seeing his work in New York in 2015 had a profound influence on my mark making, shape language, and relationship to collage. I felt an immediate connection to his forms, cut-outs, and collaborative studio process. This series celebrates his influence while using my own color palette and a new body of shapes rooted in my plant and flower collages from recent years. What I love most about this approach is the invitation to trust intuition and stay playful with composition. Like Matisse, I work collaboratively to create painted papers, cut and pin forms, and refine compositions through movement before final gluing, continuing a tradition I feel deeply grateful to be part of.
