This piece was originally designed for the “Bring Them Home” campaign. In 2013, several immigrant leaders from the undocumented youth movement in the United States crossed the border into Mexico and turned themselves in as they attempted to reenter the U.S.. This was a planned action of civil disobedience in which they were attempting to call attention to Obama’s deportation machine, which up until that year, had resulted in the destruction of over 1.7 million lives. When the youth were detained in an immigrant prison, some of them were held in isolation which had a harsh impact on their mental and physical health. The youth were eventually released, allowed to remain in the U.S., and their actions sent a powerful message about courage and determination.

Solitary confinement is torture.
